good and evil

At birth, I believe that we have potential to be either good or evil. We are neutral because we haven't had enough experiences or been exposed to other good or evil influences. Some behaviors may be passed down by your parents', but a vast majority of your good and evil characteristics are developed independently. Society and the environment both corrupt and restrain corruption. They restrain corruption by making laws and enforcing them. The environment restrains corruption in certain areas such as churches, school, and jail. They corrupt by manipulating people for their money. Money and power corrupt several people on many different levels. For instance, people could be corrupted by money or power anywhere from a politician to a drug dealer. Since outside influences on people (especially younger people) can play a big role in what people are interested in, they utilize this to persuade people a certain way. A huge example is commercial products. Another is the selling of tobacco and other drugs. Experiments that these drugs lead to hundreds of thousands of deaths a year have been proven on several accounts. Despite this fact, selfish business owners keep selling their product.

school articles response

Upon reading the articles dealing with low-performing Tacoma schools reforming and an East Coast school shutting down, I thought a lot about the decisions the government and school districts are making. I believe that simply replacing staff is not enough to cause a significant increase in performance of the students. The main cause of the low scores is the low income of the parents of the students and the lack of motivation. The income of the students' parents usually correlates with the students' scores. If my school was shutting down or half of the staff was fired, i would feel bad for the teachers since they are losing their jobs and are going to have to struggle to find new ones at local schools. If i was part of the government or school district officials i would suggest that there be a school more like New Market, but with more options of classes. Students that do not want to go onto college could take these skill-building classes in order to get jobs and would be exempt from standardize tests. Other students could remain in OHS.

technology

After hearing several facts about the increasing rates of technology in the past two days, I have learned and become more aware of the Internet. First of all, I learned that anything I put on the Internet can be view and utilized by anyone in the world. This helped me become more conscious about what I am putting on the Internet. Also, after watching the videos and reading the articles yesterday I became more aware that information posted on the web could be false or misleading. A strategy that I could use to make sure the information I am getting is true, is cross-referencing. I believe that this increase in technology will have a devastating effect on the economy within the next 20 years because computers will replace a lot of human jobs.
