school articles response

Upon reading the articles dealing with low-performing Tacoma schools reforming and an East Coast school shutting down, I thought a lot about the decisions the government and school districts are making. I believe that simply replacing staff is not enough to cause a significant increase in performance of the students. The main cause of the low scores is the low income of the parents of the students and the lack of motivation. The income of the students' parents usually correlates with the students' scores. If my school was shutting down or half of the staff was fired, i would feel bad for the teachers since they are losing their jobs and are going to have to struggle to find new ones at local schools. If i was part of the government or school district officials i would suggest that there be a school more like New Market, but with more options of classes. Students that do not want to go onto college could take these skill-building classes in order to get jobs and would be exempt from standardize tests. Other students could remain in OHS.
